Gill Takes Out the Eleventh NZPWG Women's Pro-Am
Wind gusts of up to 60km per hour and heavy intermittent rainfall created a challenge for players as they manoeuvred their way around Remuera Golf Course for the second round of the NZPWG Pro-Am in memory of Anita Boon.
However, Breanna Gill rose to the occasion maintaining her position at the front of the field, keeping one shot clear of Grace St Just, Elmay Viking and Whitney Hillier who all shot 74 (+1) in today’s trialling conditions.
“It was very difficult out there today, and a stark contrast to yesterday… it was just a challenge all day, a real grind,” said Gill.
At this event in 2018, Gill double-bogied her final hole to lose the tournament to New Zealander, Hanee Song. This year she was determined not to make the same detrimental mistake, holing a curling eight-footer on her last hole to maintain her one stroke advantage.
“I was pretty determined to not repeat what happened last year.
“It feels good being the NZPWG Pro-Am champion… I always thought I would get the job done here as the course really suits me visually off the tee.”
This is Gill’s third victory on the ALPG tour with her first wins being at the Qantas Golf Challenge and the New Caledonia Women’s Pro-Am in 2018.
“I do feel comfortable when I’ve been leading an event, and I have been playing well recently but it was definitely a bit of a relief having the four shot lead.
Gill will be taking a brief break to let her body rest and take care of a few lingering injuries in the lead up to the season where she has put herself in a very positive position to qualify for ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open to be held in early February 2020 through her position on the current year’s money list.
